Grit and determination.

Second game put the Ladies 1s on the road to clash with City of Peterborough L1s. It was somewhat hard to know their game plan as it’s been a long time since the teams last meeting.

Ipswich started off strong, picking out the weaker side and pouncing on them. Piled on the pressure by Sophie Sexton and Jas Vincent both having early shots at Peterborough. Ipswich kept the shape in their press well and entered conflict at the right times to win turnover ball. Peterborough did respond with a counter break but GK Ali Barham threatened well to force an error. Ipswich took a few attempts to adjust to the press they were faced with, but nothing that wasn’t manageable for them.

Deep into the first half, Ipswich were 1-0 down after a penalty stroke found the net from a challenging call. Not phased by this, Ipswich were able to find their way back up the pitch with some lovely balls from Megan Palmer and Keisha Brickwood-Hilaire.

Half time break came and at the right time after some fraught play and a couple of ice packs and claret cleanup. POTM Emma Rix being one victim didn’t let that stop her from playing and still being in the right places at the right time. A strong performance through the middle from Emma who aided in the ball being upgraded to the forward lines.

The final 20 minutes of the game and Ipswich still goalless despite the chances being created. Nevertheless though, they found 5th gear and the opportunities came thick and fast. A quick break from an interception from the middle of the pitch, the speedy India Goodman picking the ball up and with an elimination followed by a top bins reverse shot, Ipswich equalled 1-1.

5 minutes later, forward Georgia Harrold, wins a stroke from Ipswich. Experienced Lizzy Wheelhouse steps up to the plate and fires it in. 2-1 with only minutes from the end of play. A controlled and well managed final moments from Ipswich.

A massive confidence boost and well deserved 3 points for the girls. The question is; can they back it up with another W this coming Saturday. Norwich City 1s (H) see you all at 2pm!
