Match Report: Ipswich Women’s 5s vs. IES4 Development Team
Ipswich Women’s 5s traveled to Rushmere with a full squad and a strong bench, ready to take on IES4 Development Team. Alison did a fantastic job managing the substitutions, ensuring smooth rotations that kept everyone confident and well-organized before the game kicked off.
From the opening whistle, Ipswich dominated possession, keeping the ball firmly in the opposition’s half. Despite several promising chances and short corners, the team struggled to convert due to a crowded goalmouth. IES4 found it difficult to break through, with their rare attacking surges from the 16 being swiftly intercepted by the rock-solid defensive trio of Hannah, Jessie, and Eliza. Alice showcased resilience after being fouled near the D, continuing to play despite the expectation of a short corner being awarded.
As the halftime whistle blew, Coach James provided valuable tactical insight, highlighting that Ipswich’s sustained dominance was limiting their scoring opportunities. He emphasized the importance of trusting each other, spreading out, and creating space to allow better passing opportunities into the D.
The team took this advice on board and restarted with renewed purpose. Chantelle quickly found her rhythm, scoring an impressive hat-trick to the delight of the supporters on the sidelines. Ipswich continued to press, and a well-executed sequence of passes set up Ebony to fire home another goal. Emily’s commanding presence in midfield, alongside Leanna and Suki, helped link play effectively with the attacking trio of Kassia, Alice, and Frankie. This teamwork led to a short corner, where Emily confidently stepped up to the top of the D and slotted in another goal.
Ipswich’s momentum remained strong, and with Jia chasing down the ball in midfield, she was well-placed to receive a slip pass from Ebony and slot home yet another goal. Martha’s outstanding debut in midfield showcased her strength and adaptability.
At the final whistle, Ipswich celebrated a commanding 7-0 victory, demonstrating excellent adaptability and execution in the second half. Chantelle deservedly earned the POM for her stunning hat-trick, while DOD went to Clara for minimal ball contact!
The victory was fittingly celebrated at Leanna’s beautiful country home, where she surprised Chantelle with a birthday cake enjoyed by all, rounding off a perfect day for Ipswich Women’s 5s. Well played, team
Boy's U14 A's East Area Finals
With an U16 team and two U14 teams playing today subs were in short supply but with three back to back games the U14 A's worked hard as a team throughout. With four U14 players playing U16 other players took the opportunity to step up and show what they can do. Looking down the pitch there were comments about how much bigger some of the opposition teams were but this didn't deter them - a tight first game saw two goals in the first half against Blue Harts to win 2-0 with a very tight second half. Next up was a well supplied Saffron Waldon team with a full squad who'd just drawn with Magpies but Ipswich made them work for their 2-1 victory, with several opportunities that on another day would have found the target. Finishing the day off was the game against Magpies which was battled to the finish, ending 4-2 to Magpies but was closer than the score suggests. With a hasty bit of maths to work out the finishing order coach Oli got the maths wrong and had us in 4th but here are the full results with Ipswich getting a credible 3rd.
Ips v BH 2-0, MP v SW 2-2(?)
Ips v SW 1-2, MP v BH 2-0
Ips v MP 2-4, SW v BH 1-31st Magpies (6 points)
2nd Saffron Waldon (4 points)
3rd Ipswich (3 points -1 goal difference)
4th Blue Harts (3 points -2 goal difference)
All the team worked their socks off, fuelled with chocolate, haribo and a good dose of Ipswich heart. So no motm awards as they all played equal parts. Thank you to all the parents for their support and surviving the icy wind on the side line.
